New Department of Transportation Drug Testing Regulations

New Department of Transportation regulations, effective Jan. 1, 2018, require drug testing for four semi-synthetic opiods - hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone, and oxymorphone. A person taking one of these druges, even with a prescription and as directed, may not be allowed to return to work post-drug test and after speaking with a Medical Review Officer due to "safety sensitive concerns." The results are often reported to employers as "negative, but with safety concerns."

The new regulation summary is available here.
