New Illinois Unemployment Insurance Claim Filing Process

In an effort to deal with the huge increase in unemployment insurance (UI) claims, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is asking workers filing new UI claims to follow a schedule based on their last name. IDES has extended the hours for phoning in claims:

Workers filing new UI claims with last names beginning with the letters A – M are asked to file:

Workers filing new UI claims with last names beginning with the letters N – Z are asked to file:

Anybody can file new claims online on Saturdays (using a computer, not a smartphone).

Anybody can phone in new claims on Fridays between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: The schedule above does not apply to workers who are “certifying” that they continue to be unemployed. Those workers should continue to follow the certification schedule provided by IDES.
